Smartboards and Projectors
How Do I turn on the Smartboard or Projector?
If you have something that looks like this you have a Smartboard, if not you have a projector and you can scroll down
If you have a Smartboard, the power button is located on the bottom left side of the board. Press the power button and it should start flashing green then turn green while it is turning on.
The picture on the screen will not come up immediately and can take a few minutes for the Smartboard to warm up and the picture to appear, avoid the temptation to press it again which could cause the Smartboard to shut down.
When the Smartboard starts up you may be presented with the desktop computer screen or you may have to select the input. If you see the below screen you need to select “Computer Access” then select which input you would like to use which will usually be "Desktop".
If you see the desktop and want to switch a different connection such as a laptop or DVD player,
select the menu button, located on the bottom left side of the board then on the board select “Computer Access” or "Watch Video" then select the input you desire.
Most projectors are as simple as turning them on and selecting the input. Different classrooms have different style projectors and controls may vary on where the buttons are located.
Select “Power” to turn on.
For input select Computer or Video
Select power button to turn on, then select which input you want Computer 1 or 2, or Video
Select On to power on the display
Select PC or Video for your input
To connect your laptop you will need to plug in the VGA cable and the audio cable if you need audio (they should be located near the desktop)
If your computer does not have this type of connection, you will need to use an adapter.
IT has most of the Apple connections available to loan out to students, we are located in M13 (next to the soccer field). http://ltech.alliant.edu/maps.html#map
You will need to change the input on the Smartboard or projector, on the Smartboard press the menu button then select “Computer Access” then select laptop or VGA
For a projector you will need to select input on the remote control or the projector itself. The laptop connection will usually be VGA or Computer 2.
Once you connect your laptop, it may automatically connect or you may have to change the output yourself.
Some laptops you can select the output using the keyboard, the key combination will vary with brand and model
If the keyboard doesn’t work you may be able to do it from the desktop. Right click on the blank desktop and select the video card or possibly “Screen Resolution”, it varies by brand and model.
